5Vegetable EnhancerVegetables (generic)▾
● Contextual noteA generic term for vegetable ingredients. Where the label names the vegetables in brackets, each is shown and classified below; 'including' wording means others may be present without being listed. Unnamed vegetables limit traceability and allergen assessment.Sources: AAFCO ingredient definitions
6Sunflower Oil▾
● Standard ingredientA named plant oil providing energy and fatty acids.
● Under research reviewA plant-derived insoluble fibre. Provides bulk but limited nutritional value. Acceptable in small amounts; when present as a primary fibre source (top 10 ingredients), it may indicate a high proportion of nutritionally inert filler.Sources: NRC 2006 Nutrient Requirements · Nutritional composition data

9Cinnamon▾
● Beneficial (emerging)Cinnamon's signature compound cinnamaldehyde has antioxidant activity, and human randomised trials and meta-analyses report small, inconsistent associations between cinnamon and lower blood glucose and blood lipids (mechanisms studied in the laboratory, not established in dogs or cats). The effect is dose- and type-dependent: Cassia cinnamon is high in coumarin (roughly 0.4 to 0.8 percent versus about 0.004 percent in Ceylon or 'true' cinnamon), EFSA's coumarin tolerable-daily-intake is itself based on liver effects seen in a 2-year dog study, and veterinary and poison-control sources flag large or repeated amounts, and concentrated cinnamon essential oil, as a hepatic and irritant hazard, especially for cats.Sources: Cinnamon Use in Type 2 Diabetes: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (Annals of Family Medicine, 2013) · Efficacy of cinnamon supplementation on glycolipid metabolism in T2DM: a meta-analysis and systematic review (Frontiers in Physiology, 2022) · Combined Risk Assessment of Food-derived Coumarin (hepatotoxicity; EFSA TDI context)
10Fructo-oligosaccharide

This product lists 2 separate wheat derivatives (wheat, wheat gluten). When listed separately, each appears lower on the ingredient list than they would if combined as a single entry.

● Under research reviewAn inorganic phosphate salt (E451) permitted as a food additive in the US (GRAS) and the EU, used in pet food mainly for moisture retention and in some dental-care formulations. EFSA's 2019 re-evaluation of phosphates set a group acceptable daily intake. Limited pet food-specific toxicology.Sources: EFSA 2019 phosphates opinion
12TurmericTurmeric / curcumin▾
● Beneficial (emerging)Curcumin has well-documented anti-inflammatory properties in laboratory studies, but its bioavailability in standard oral forms is poor without specific enhancement (piperine, lipid carrier, or phytosomal formulation). In several randomised controlled trials in dogs and cats with osteoarthritis, diets and supplements containing bioavailability-enhanced curcumin (for example phosphatidylcholine/phytosome complexes), usually combined with other ingredients such as omega-3 fatty acids, hydrolysed collagen or green-lipped mussel, were associated with owner- and veterinarian-reported improvements in pain and mobility (e.g. Comblain et al., 2017); objective gait measures were often unchanged, and these effects have not been demonstrated for the small amounts of plain turmeric found in most foods.Sources: Colitti et al. 2012 · Comblain et al., BMC Veterinary Research 2017, DOI 10.1186/s12917-017-1317-8 · Feline osteoarthritis diet with EPA/DHA, turmeric extract and hydrolysed collagen, Animals 2024;14(22):3298 · Moreau et al., Veterinary Record 2003;152(11):323 (counter-evidence: curcumin nutraceutical did not improve objective gait vs NSAIDs) · Pye et al., Journal of Small Animal Practice 2024 (review)Position on the ingredient list suggests a moderate to small inclusion level.
13BromelainDigestive enzymes (natural)▾
● Beneficial (emerging)Supplemental enzymes (commonly amylase, protease, lipase, sometimes cellulase), often from fungal fermentation (Aspergillus spp.) or plants (papain, bromelain). In vitro and feeding studies suggest improved nutrient digestibility, and they have an established therapeutic role in exocrine pancreatic insufficiency and pancreatic disease. Evidence for routine benefit in otherwise healthy pets is more limited, and processing heat can reduce enzyme activity.Sources: Frontiers Vet Sci 2023 (in vitro canine enzyme digestibility) · VCA Animal Hospitals (enzymes) · AAFCO ingredient definitionsPosition on the ingredient list suggests a moderate to small inclusion level.
14Zinc Oxide▾
● Standard ingredientA standard added zinc (mineral) supplement.
