The principles
- No scores, grades or rankings. We never say a product is good, bad, safe or unsafe, and we never compute a quality number. The "data completeness" percentage you see measures only how much information is disclosed, never product quality.
- Every note is attributed. When an ingredient carries a classification, the note names its published source (for example a regulator, a peer-reviewed study, or an industry standard) rather than asserting our own opinion.
- Facts about your pet, not verdicts. An allergen flag means an ingredient matches your pet's recorded allergy profile. It states a fact; it does not tell you what to do.
- Gaps are stated, never guessed. When a manufacturer does not disclose something, we show "not disclosed" instead of estimating it.
- Consult your vet. Every health-related note ends with this for a reason: nothing here is veterinary advice.
What we look at
- Ingredient transparency: the full ingredient list as declared by the manufacturer, in order, with each ingredient matched against a reference library built from published sources.
- Nutritional adequacy: whether the product carries a complete-and-balanced statement, against which recognised standard (such as AAFCO nutrient profiles), and for which species and life stage. Guaranteed analysis is shown against the standard's minimums with the correct dry-matter conversion.
- Allergen matching: your pet's recorded allergens are matched against ingredients using a synonym map (chicken also matches chicken meal, poultry, and so on), including cross-contamination statements where declared.
- Brand transparency: what a brand discloses and confirms versus what remains unstated.
Where the data comes from
Product data is collected from manufacturer and retailer websites, extracted with automated tooling, and passed through a review step before publication. Each product records its sources, and prices carry the date they were last checked. Formulations change; if the label in your hand differs from what we show, trust the label and tell us.
For brands: corrections and disputes
If we have published something inaccurate about your product, we want to fix it fast. Email brands@pawdit.com.au with the product, the field in question, and the correct information. The process:
- Acknowledgment within 48 hours. You receive confirmation that we have your enquiry and when to expect a response.
- Review within 7 days. We verify the disputed data against its source, re-collecting from your website where needed. If our data is wrong we correct it immediately and confirm with you. If the data is accurate we respond with the source citation.
- Escalation. If the disagreement is with a classification itself rather than data accuracy, we record it as a disputed classification and respond with the methodology explanation and source references. Classifications only change when the cited evidence changes.
